Decentraland, a 3D virtual reality platform, tweeted (@decentraland) on developing the Decentraland’s SDK 7, the next iteration.

The goal of the Decentraland Software Development Kit (SDK) is to have an open protocol platform for creating Metaverse content—3D objects and scenes—by anyone, not just developers. Also, make it portable to any platform that adopts it.

This release intends taking steps towards realizing that. At its core, SDK7 is centered on improving usability, performance, and portability.

SDK 7 is being designed for constrained or remote environments. "SDK 7 even keeps the door open for new contributors by allowing them to create their own Decentraland versions using alternative technologies such as Godot, Unreal, standalone VR, and custom engines or platforms," Decentraland added.

Also, SDK 7 paves the way for the Decentraland Editor. This will be an all-in-one content creation tool with a visual interface (like the Builder), as well as code editing capabilities.

Our Point Of View

Currently, only seasoned developers use the Decentraland SDKs tools to create complex scenes. The company's goal is to democratize the ability to visualize and create scenes and objects in 3D. Without writing a single line of code. It’s hoping to achieve this by creating a user-sourced library of plug-and-play features that all creators can use, pro and amateur alike. We like Decentraland already!

Also, with SDK 7, Decentraland wants to overcome the complexity of creating multiplayer experiences. Most scenes today are only single-player. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the metaverse being a communal experience.

These are what currently constrain marketers.

  • The cost of specialist creative talent
  • Not enough experience to judge competence
  • The inability to define or visualise the scope and quality of outputs

To them we say- this too will pass.

If past trends in internet technology are anything to go by, a point will come, in years, not decades, when creating content on the metaverse will become as easy as using WordPress to create web pages.

Upskill your creative/UX teams, and they will start making creatives for the metaverse next month. You will not need big budget for this. The metaverse will become just another channel. Yawn….

We urge marketers to don VR sets and explore the Metaverse. Open your mind to the creative possibilities and trends. And start working on your brand’s metaverse strategy. The user tech needed for ease of production will race ahead to meet you by the time you’re ready.
